How long does it take for the PDF to be ready?

Usually a few seconds. The book is typeset and checked for you, not copied from a template. If nobody has been here for a while, the server has to wake up first – then the first order can take up to a minute. The configurator tells you when it is ready.

Where do I find my PDF again?

In ‘Your account’. After ‘Create PDF’ the configurator takes you there: the logbook is in the list, it lets you know as soon as the PDF is ready, and you can download it for 30 days – later on as well. Without an account, the link in the configurator is your only trace – download the PDF straight away.

My link no longer works

The finished PDF is deleted after 30 days. That is on purpose: what is gone cannot get lost. With an account your logbook stays all the same – under ‘Your account’ you find it again and create it anew with one click. As long as you change nothing in it, that costs nothing. Without an account the order disappears together with the PDF; then the only thing that helps is downloading it in time.

Does the logbook have to start in January?

No. You choose the month, and it runs from there for a full year, a half year or a quarter. If a horse falls ill in April, the book starts in April – nobody needs a logbook whose first quarter stays empty.

A full year, a half year or a quarter?

All three are available; you choose in the first step. The quarter is the same book over three months: 44 instead of 124 pages, the same pages at the front, one overview page instead of two. It suits trying it out, a treatment with a foreseeable end – or when you first want to see whether you really make an entry every day. The half year is six months and about 70 pages: the stabling season from October to March, when a chronic cough is at its worst. It costs half of the full year and needs half the paper.

Does it have to be about coughing?

No. The daily scale from 0 to 4 is called ‘Cough’ by default, but you can rename it – lameness, itching, mood – and label the five levels yourself. Or leave it out altogether, then it is a calendar for taking notes. Medication, initials and the feed line can be switched off too.

Which language is the logbook in?

German, English, French or Italian – you choose in the ‘Format’ step, independently of the language of this website. If you switch, the defaults switch too: ‘Cough’ becomes ‘Husten’, ‘Toux’ or ‘Tosse’, and so do the boxes and the meals; anything you have written yourself stays. A saved logbook keeps its language.

Which format should I choose?

• Print shop: A5 with Wire-O binding – coming soon. The finished book, as you would buy it – with bleed, crop marks and embedded fonts. You give this PDF to a print shop; it cannot sensibly be printed at home, because home printers do not print to the edge of the sheet.
• At home: A4, punched for a ring binder. One logbook page per A4 sheet, print on both sides, punch, into the binder. The type is larger than in the A5 book and every day has six instead of four writing lines; there is room for the punch holes on the inside.
• At home: A4, front only. Like A4 in a ring binder, but on one side: every page goes on its own sheet, and the margin for the punch holes is always on the left. For printers that do not print on both sides – or if you want to save yourself the turning. It needs twice as much paper, which is why it is only available for a quarter. A week then spans two sheets.
• At home: A5 booklets to fold. Two pages go side by side on a landscape A4 sheet. Printed, flipped on the short edge, folded and stapled, that makes four handy booklets instead of one thick stack – a single one for a quarter – and no week is torn apart.

Can I put a photo on the cover?

Yes, with an account: in the ‘Cover’ step, the second one. The photo lies in colour behind the name and year, which stand on a white panel – at the top, in the middle or at the bottom, as you choose. For the print shop it reaches the edge; at home a white margin remains, because home printers do not print to the edge of the sheet. With the slider below it you move the crop so that your horse’s head is not cut off.

Use a JPEG or PNG up to 10 MB; a photo straight from your phone is almost always big enough. Below the photo it says how sharp it will be printed. If it is too small, we tell you – you can still print it. Before we store it, we remove the location it was taken and all the other details a phone writes into a photo.

How much paper is a year?

124 pages. As A4 in a ring binder, printed on both sides, that is about 62 sheets. As A5 booklets about 33 sheets, spread over four booklets – each one also gets a title page and a notes page. The quarter is about 44 pages: about 22 sheets of A4, about 44 sheets printed on one side, or a single A5 booklet of 11 or 12 sheets. The half year is about 70 pages: 35 sheets of A4 or two A5 booklets of 9 sheets each. The preview warns that something sticks out over the edge

Then a label is too long for the day header – usually the name of the daily scale or the boxes next to it. Shorten the text, and the warning disappears. Without it, the PDF would pass the print check and come back from the print shop trimmed.

The PDF could not be created

Try again – most cases are temporary. If it keeps happening, write to us with the name of the horse and the period; we will look into it.

Do I need an account?

Not for trying it out: designing and leafing through the book work without one. An account is worth it if you want to download your PDF again later, keep logbooks for several horses or reorder next year – and you need one for your own photo on the cover. You sign in with a code by email; there is no password.

What happens to my data?

In short: no advertising, visitor statistics without anything you enter, no cookies, your data in Switzerland, finished PDFs deleted after 30 days, photos without location and only for as long as a logbook needs them. The details are in the privacy policy.
